Cleo and Leroy Steagall Family Scholarship Fund

Background

​

Cleo and Leroy Steagall were the proud parents of four daughters, all of which graduated from  Cincinnati Public Schools. Education was a major priority in their household. Cleo and Leroy’s love for  education inspired their daughters to attend and excel at Historically Black Colleges and Universities  (HBCUs) and become educators in the Cincinnati Public School District. This scholarship was created in  order to continue the Steagall family legacy by inspiring Cincinnati students to attend HBCUs. 

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND MAXIMUM AMOUNT PER SCHOLARSHIP

One scholarship will be awarded annually. The applicant will be awarded up to $1,000.  b. The scholarship award is payable to the institution where the applicant will attend.

REQUIRMENTS â€‹

To qualify for this scholarship, a student must meet these criteria:  

​

  • Applicants must graduate from Woodward High school and be attending an HBCU

  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 upon their graduation from high school

  • High School grades from the semester preceding semester of application  

  • Application must be submitted by April 4 prior to the following academic year 

  • Complete and submit the online application that includes the following:  

  • Link to online application: Cleo and Leroy Steagall Family Scholarship 2025

  • Student essay:  

    •  Students will write an essay with a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 1000 words

    • Write a letter to your younger self include the following:  

      •  What lessons you have learned throughout high school.  

      •  How would you prepare your younger self to meet your current goals of getting into college? 

      • What words of encouragement would you give your younger self.    

SELECTION

​

The selection of the recipients will be made by the Cleo and Leroy Steagall Family Scholarship  Selection Committee.
